The Elcometer NDT CG60DL Corrosion Ultrasonic Thickness Gauge (part number CG60DL) is a handheld ultrasonic gauge for the non-destructive inspection of pipes, storage tanks and other metal structures. Internal corrosion thins a wall from the inside, where it cannot be seen, and a thin section can fail under pressure or load. The CG60DL measures remaining wall thickness through the surface, so inspectors can track metal loss and plan repairs before a structure is compromised.

The gauge uses both Pulse-Echo (PE) and Echo-Echo (EE) ThruPaint technology. Echo-Echo mode ignores applied coatings up to 2mm thick on metal substrates, returning a true material thickness rather than a coating-plus-metal figure. The PE measuring range is 0.63 to 500mm and the EE range is 2.54 to 25.4mm, with ±0.1mm accuracy and 0.01mm resolution across a velocity calibration range of 1250 to 10,000m/s. A dual element transducer (1 to 10MHz) handles corroded surfaces, and the high speed scan mode takes 16 readings per second, holding the lowest value in memory for the pass.

Differential mode shows the +/- variation from a user-set nominal thickness, while the minimum thickness alarm triggers an LED and audible warning below a target value. The data logger stores 1,000 readings in 10 batches of 100, output via RS232 to the supplied data management software. The aluminium housing has gasket-sealed end caps and a waterproof membrane keypad. Note that this model has been discontinued; contact BAMR, South Africa's authorised distributor, for a current replacement recommendation.
