About this product

The Elcometer 214 Infrared Digital Laser Thermometer (part number G214L---3) is a non-contact thermometer that measures the surface temperature of non-reflective materials using infrared technology, with a laser spot to show where it is reading. Non-contact measurement is useful where a surface is moving, hot, hard to reach, or simply where touching it is impractical, and in coatings work surface temperature is a climatic parameter that affects whether a coating can be applied successfully.

The Elcometer 214 Infrared Digital Laser Thermometer reads the infrared energy emitted from a target spot and converts it to a temperature in one second. The measuring range of the Elcometer 214 Infrared Digital Laser Thermometer is -35 to 365 degrees C, with a resolution of 0.2 degrees C and an accuracy of plus or minus 1.5 degrees C. Emissivity is fixed at 0.95, which suits most non-reflective surfaces. The distance-to-target ratio is 8:1, meaning the measured spot is one-eighth of the working distance; at 200mm from the surface, for example, the measured area is 25mm across, so closer working gives a smaller, more focused reading area down to objects as small as 25mm. The laser pointer shows the centre of the measured area. Two AAA batteries give 14 or more hours of continuous use, in a 166 by 34 by 64mm body weighing 113g.

The Elcometer 214 Infrared Digital Thermometer can also be used to measure human body temperature. Used in coatings inspection and general surface temperature checks, the Elcometer 214 Infrared Digital Laser Thermometer is supplied by BAMR, South Africa's authorised Elcometer distributor.

When to use the Elcometer 214

Use the Elcometer 214 when you need to read surface temperature of non-reflective materials without touching them, for example checking a substrate before coating from a safe distance. It uses infrared with a laser spot indicator, scans in one second and has a fixed emissivity of 0.95 across a range of -35 to 365 degrees C. It suits inspectors who need a fast, non-contact spot check rather than a probe reading.

  • 1
    No-contact spot reading
The non-contact technology with a laser spot indicator lets you read hot or awkward surfaces safely without placing a probe.
  • 2
    One second scan
A one second response time means you can sweep across a surface and pick up readings quickly during an inspection.
  • 3
    8 to 1 distance ratio
The 8:1 distance-to-target ratio and 25mm spot size tell you exactly how small an area you can target from a given standoff.
